Girls Rock! Adelaide Official Launch: Recap
Well, consider Girls Rock! Adelaide officially launched and heading out of the stratosphere! On February 7th we were delighted to finally showcase all of the past year’s hard work to the public at Adelaide’s newest live music destination Lion Arts Factory.
So many creative community members poured into the revamped building on North Terrace to the live croonings of longtime Girls Rock! advocate and musician Courtney Barnett, downing free beverages provided by our beloved partners at Mojo Kombucha and a range of treats donated by Chelsea Mezzatesta of Lentil Illness and the Jeavons family.
After a brief introduction to Girls Rock! Australia’s work and Adelaide’s upcoming program from the whole leadership team, co-director Sianne Van Abkoude led an inspiring panel discussion with Courtney Barnett (Musician, Co-founder of Milk Records), Nancy Bates (Barkindji Songwoman, APRA Ambassador), Sharni Honor (Founder of The Porch Sessions), and Wallis Prophet (Musician, Co-founder of Draw Your [S]words). The conversation was compelling and often personal, ranging from the transformative power of music, inclusive spaces, and what it takes to build something from the ground up to self doubt and the importance of community.
Before a meet and greet with Courtney Barnett in the courtyard, Nancy Bates wowed the audience with a moving ode to the many faces of love. We are proud and enormously grateful to say that the energy of the whole room was one of positivity, common values, authenticity and tremendous support.
